We're pleased to announce that applications for this year's Research Excellence Awards are now open! Any postgraduate research student (Masters or PhD) may nominate themselves for an award, valued at $1500.

It was a pleasure to once again host the VUW 3 Minute Thesis Final yesterday, taking place in the beautiful Hunter Council Chambers. It's always a joy to see such a range of research expertise condensed into an easily-digestible chunk of time - those who have given it a go know it's not as easy as our finalists made it look!

You've probably come across the ThinkWell team of Maria Gardiner and Hugh Kearns, either at your orientation or one of their regular FGR workshops . Maria and Hugh are world experts in cognitive behavioural coaching, with over fifteen years' experience of working with students and supervisors. In layman's terms, this means they have the knack of reminding you of your own abilities and reigniting productivity - even on the more difficult days!

Starting from this year, there are up to twenty grants of $500 available, to be awarded throughout the year. At least two grants will be awarded to candidates whose research is likely to be of benefit to Māori and Pasifika studies, in accordance with the Treaty of Waitangi Statute. Like the rest of New Zealand, the Christchurch mosque terrorist attack has been at the forefront of our minds. The news of the developing attacks left me numb with disbelief and horror, as it did for so many others. To the members of our Muslim community we offer our condolences and our love. We join in the sentiment so well expressed by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern: “We cannot know your grief, but we can walk with you at every stage. We can. And we will, surround you with aroha, manaakitanga and all that makes us, us.”

If you're on the Victoria Doctoral Scholarship, you're doubtless aware that it can be difficult to get by on $23,500 per annum - especially if you're an international student and/or have any dependents while studying. The PGSA is advocating a raise in the scholarship amount, and for student levies to be included in its provisions, and we need your help to make our case.

The PGSA Victorias Awards 2018 was successfully held on Friday, 30 November 2018. These awards celebrate excellence within Victoria University’s postgraduate community and recognise the support of postgraduate students, academic and professional staff who work with passion and dedication.

It’s Graduation season, and some of you will become graduate women for the first time. Some of you already are graduate women. Either way, there’s an organisation that you probably don’t know about that you should definitely join: Graduate Women Wellington.

Change is in the air! Please allow me to introduce myself. I am the new President of the Postgraduate Students’ Association of Victoria University of Wellington. A new representative means doing things in a new way.
